Police arraign man, 40, in court for alleged breach of trust, cheating

The police, on Thursday, arraigned a 40-year-old man, Matthew Musa before a Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court, for alleged breach of trust and cheating.
Musa, who resides in Gosa village, off Airport Road, Abuja, was accused of allegedly selling his neighbour’s car, the offence that contravened the provision of Sections 312 and 321 of the Penal Code.
 
The prosecutor, John Okpa, had told the court that one Alabi Ademola, reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on April 22.
 
Okpa quoted the complainant, as alleging that the defendant deceitfully sold his Toyota Camry car, valued N1, 300, 000.
The prosecutor said that the complainant reportedly gave the car to the defendant, who happens to be his neighbour fo‎r commercial purposes and to remit money to him.
 
He said that the complainant reported to the police that instead, the defendant sold the car and converted the money to his own use without his consent.
 
The defendant denied committing the offences, but told the court that he was drugged and the said car was snatched from him‎.
 
Counsel to the defendant, Moses Ugwummadu, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms, assuring that a reliable surety would be provided if bail is granted.
 
The judge, Mohammed Marafa, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1.3 million and a surety in like sum.
Marafa said the surety must be a public servant, who resides within the court’s jurisdiction.
 
He said the surety would produce his last promotion letter and his address should be verified by the prosecutor.
 
He adjourned the case until June 11 for hearing.
